We're excited to announce GPcardio, a vital new initiative from the European and International Primary Care Cardiovascular Societies (EPCCS & IPCCS). GPcardio is dedicated to transforming how evidence-based cardiovascular disease (CVD) management is adopted and implemented in primary care.
Primary care professionals play a critical role in preventing and managing CVD, along with related conditions like kidney disease, diabetes, and obesity. A well-informed primary care workforce is essential for significantly improving patient outcomes. However, General Practitioners (GPs) often face challenges in focusing on complex conditions due to workforce shortages, heavy workloads, and a lack of standardized practices.
With over 500,000 GPs in Europe managing up to 90% of patients with CVD and related diseases, the need for robust support for primary care in this area is clear. GPcardio aims to close the gap between primary care and specialist care in CVD.
GPcardio and EPCCS are also well-connected with other key organizations, including WONCA, EACH (The European Alliance for Cardiovascular Health), and the NCD Academy (an initiative of ACC), as well as numerous national societies across Europe. This ensures primary care is aligned with the latest guidelines for improving CVD care.
By supporting earlier disease diagnosis, timely treatment, improved referrals, and enhanced guideline implementation, GPcardio will help make significant strides in addressing the global burden of CVD
