The Pulse of Primary Care - EPCCS Summit 2026

EPCCS Annual Cardiovascular Summit Relaunched in Palma de Mallorca

After a six-year hiatus since 2019, the European Primary Care Cardiovascular Society (EPCCS) made a succesful return on February 26–27, 2026. The 12th Annual Summit brought together 60 leading primary care professionals from across Europe to the scenic city of Palma de Mallorca for an intensive, interactive exchange on the future of cardiovascular, cardiorenal and cardiometabolic medicine.

Bridging the Gap: The GP Toolkit for Dyslipidaemia

A cornerstone of the summit was a deep dive into lipid management, moderated by Professor Erik Stroes from Amsterdam UMC. The session focused on equipping practitioners with a pragmatic "GP Toolkit" for daily practice. Key discussions included:

The Cardiorenal Connection

Recognizing the inseparable link between heart and kidney health, a dedicated Cardiorenal Update session moderated by prof Hiddo Lambers Heerspink from Groningen, The Neterlands and prof Raj Thakkar president of PCCS, United Kingdom. They provided clinicians with a clear roadmap for:

Policy and Prevention: The EU Safe Hearts Plan

The summit also looked toward the future of European health policy with a session on the new EU Safe Hearts Plan. Delegates explored the unique opportunities this plan provides for primary care to lead the charge in preventative cardiology and population health management.

Broadening the Scope: Special Populations

Cardiovascular risk does not exist in a vacuum. The summit addressed often-overlooked intersections of health, including:

Cardiovascular Updates

State of the art lectures were held on important topics like:

A Pan-European Perspective

The "interactive exchange" was truly realized through country-specific updates. Delegates from Poland, Greece, Turkey, and Ukraine shared the unique challenges and success stories from their respective healthcare systems, fostering a sense of solidarity and shared learning.

"This summit marks a vital return to face-to-face collaboration. By translating complex specialist knowledge into a 'GP Toolkit,' we ensure that the latest innovations in cardiorenal medicine actually reach the patients who need them most."
