Published today in the European Heart Journal ahead of its Monday presentation: the first dedicated ESC guideline on cardiac rehabilitation, chaired by Maria Bäck (Gothenburg), Matthias Wilhelm (Bern) and Dominique Hansen (Hasselt). Core components are exercise training, psychological support and personalised education on lifestyle and adherence, delivered by a multidisciplinary team, in hospital or through digitally supported home-based programmes with remote monitoring. Indications extend beyond myocardial infarction to heart failure, congenital heart disease, atrial fibrillation, valve replacement and patients receiving cardiotoxic cancer therapy. The guideline calls out the under-use of one of the most effective and cost-effective treatments in cardiology.
