FIMMG National Congress
Management of Patients with Dyslipidemia in the General Practitioner's Office
Prevention, Diagnostic Algorithm, Available Therapies, and a Multidisciplinary Approach" was held. The workshop focused on new cardiovascular prevention strategies and the role of general practice.
Of particular note was the participation of Professor Richard Hobbs of the University of Oxford, President of the EPCCS and an international expert in general practice and cardiovascular prevention. He presented the latest scientific evidence and the latest developments in European guidelines on the management of dyslipidemia. His presentation focused on the importance of early and sustained reduction of LDL cholesterol, the personalization of therapies based on cardiovascular risk, and the use of digital tools and clinical algorithms to improve the appropriateness of therapeutic decisions. Of particular interest was the discussion between Hobbs and Walter Marrocco, Scientific Director of the FIMMG and member of the Board of Directors and Council of the European Primary Care Cardiovascular Society (EPCCS), on the opportunities for translating international scientific evidence into the daily practice of Italian primary care medicine, improving continuity of care, therapeutic adherence, and the integration between primary and specialist care. The workshop, with contributions from Ivan Carrara and Giuseppe Bombardiere, also presented an operational algorithm for the management of dyslipidemic patients, aimed at supporting general practitioners in risk stratification, treatment selection, and follow-up. The final message is clear: strengthening the role of primary care medicine in cardiovascular prevention means transforming scientific evidence into personalized, appropriate, and concretely applicable care pathways in the community.
