Prospective cross-sectional study in Denmark and Spain: 16,808 adults aged 18 to 70 without known cardiovascular disease, balanced by decade and sex, imaged with 3D vascular ultrasound of carotid and femoral arteries and coronary CT angiography. Silent atherosclerosis in 57.1 percent: about 1 in 13 at 18 to 29, 9 in 10 at 60 to 70, an S-shaped age curve, men 5 to 10 years ahead of women, women with a steep rise around the menopause.
